Ch9 – 76-80, end

I also wanna do a kind of…back cover/closing page after this, just to finish it off, and of course there’s the final Q&A (info here!) and my little essay but, there it is!  The story’s over!
It’s hard to know what to say in this moment, but thank you all for reading and supporting me.  You’ve all seen me go through ups and downs with this comic but your readership is a huge part of why I made it all the way to the end.  I’m excited to eventually do the next thing–and do it better than this one–but for now I think I’ll just relax and take pride in what I can.  Thank you all again so much. ❤

  1. This is a beautiful ending, and exactly the right place to close the story out, I think. Healing IS a long and hard process, and it’s good to see a story end with the healing unfinished, but still with hope for the future and the knowledge that the characters won’t have to go through it alone. I much prefer it to endings where healing is just handed to the characters in service of an uncomplicated ending. As an abuse victim who myself is struggling in the process of healing and frequently finds fiction that tries to deal with the topic doesn’t reflect my experiences at all, War in the Shade was exactly the story I needed to see, at the exact time I needed to see it, and I can’t thank you enough for making it. I’m very excited to see what you do next (after you get some rest! finishing a comic is a huge deal!) and will definitely be keeping up with whatever creative projects you make in the future!

  3. “I thought we might wait until the rain lightened!” and “Who knows when that’ll happen?” are just so powerful and full of so much meaning i just can’t fully grasp how they make me feel. Thank you.

Not just thank you for that exchange, but thank you for this comic. I, and many others, are blessed to have read it and I’m so happy for you to have finished it and freed yourself up to move forward, even though I never wanted it to end. Excited to follow where you go next. 🙂

I’ve followed War In The Shade for so long now and rereading the entire thing made me realize the entire comic is just breathtaking. It is so important to me, and I’ll remember it for years. Thank you so much for making it, Toasty! I’m so excited to see what else you do!
